Hello marvelously smart internet peeps,
Is there a way to change the name of a link on the sidebar without having to put the name as the title of the post?
For instance,
say I’m building a website for a dog training service and I want the first page to read “Welcome to Doggy Preschool” as a greeting to viewers. So I put this in the ‘title’ field when I write my home page post.
However, I want the sidebar link to this page to be just “Home Page” or something easy like that. I don’t want it to say “Home Page” on the top of the first page because that’s just stupid looking.
Any thoughts, answers, advice?
Thanks in advance!

If you are using WordPress version 3.0+ or using WordPress.com service, then you have the ability to create a custom menu widget. First, create a new menu at Appearance > Menus in your blog’s Dashboard. From there you are change the navigation label to something shorter or not ‘stupid looking’. Then add the Custom Menu Widget to your sidebar and select the new menu you just created.
Custom menu widgets are the bomb. I use them all the time. You can also do it the old school way with Links. Create a new Link Category and put posts and pages into the category and call them anything you like. Then insert a Link Widget and select your category from the list. But menus do that. I like using menus better.
