Which should I use for my website ipage or bluehost?

Question:

I want to make a website, but I’m not sure if I should pick ipage or bluehost. I’m a beginner and I don’t know a lot about web hosting. Basically just that i need a domain name and web hosting. I don’t even know how to build a site cause I can’t do html. So I guess I need a webpage builder, too.

Answer:

I happen to have hosting account with both iPage and BlueHost. Both hosts are good, but Blue Host might be overkill for a beginner. It’s has more tools for developers in the cPanel control panel. Blue Host has the same basic website builders that IPage does, but the extras ones that BH has are paid versions and quite frankly, the paid versions cost more than the web hosting account does. That’s not cool that you should have to pay for both. BH has good uptime, but I have a couple of WordPress blogs that they throttle. Without getting technical, throttling is when they think your site is using too many resources so they automatically set a less demanding pace for it, hence, throttling. I find that rather unnerving because those sites barely get traffic as it is.

No Throttling, No File Limits

I think it would be best to go with iPage. They don’t throttle accounts. They also don’t have a file number limit. Even though most hosts give you unlimited hosting space, they still restrict the number of files you can have on your account. Crazy, huh. iPage has no file limits.

Website Builders

Easy iPage Website BuilderiPage does have a couple of website builders in the control panel, but you can only build 6 pages with one and only 9 with the other. If that’s all you need, then knock yourself out. However, I tend to not recommend using them because if you want to move your website to another host later on, you won’t be able to do it.

You can also use a free open source website builder like Kompozer and then upload the files to your account. Or you can buy website builder software online or like at Office Depot or Staples.

WordPress is the better option. You can install WordPress from within the IPage control panel. That’s what I do. I don’t even make regular websites anymore because WordPress is so easy to run. No page building and the navigation all happens by magic in the background. You can also upload WordPress themes that you find on theme sites, so changing the look of your blog is so much easy than with a regular site.

Green Hosting

iPage is also a green web hosting company so you’ll be doing something nice for the environment.

Affordable Hosting

IPage is also very affordable with plans as low a $3.50/mo. They also have an anytime moneyback guarantee so if you even need to close your account, at least you can get your unused hosting fees back.

Free Domain Name

They’ll also give you a free domain name. The name is free for as long as you keep you hosting account active, so that saves you around $10-$15 per year.
