How To Stop Fake Trackbacks On Your WordPress Blog
On a self-hosted WordPress blog, if you enter your email address under General Settings, you’ll be notified when certain events happen on your blog, events like comments and trackbacks. The big tipoff will be write in the email itself, it will say it’s a comment or trackback.
In recent weeks I started getting a ton of spammy looking trackback notifications for practically everysingle one of my blogs that I was currently posting to. Only thing is, when I went to the supposed site where the trackback originated, there was nothing there.
Plugin(s) You’ll Need
Simple Trackback Validation- Eliminates spam trackbacks by (1) checking if the IP address of the trackback sender is equal to the IP address of the webserver the trackback URL is referring to and (2) by retrieving the web page located at the URL used in the trackback and checking if the page contains a link to your blog.
