How can I convert a Dreamweaver website into a WordPress blog?

Question:

My friend put together my small business website in dreamweaver for me. However, I now want to maintain it myself—my friend recommended putting it into wordpress. However, I am not a web designer and have no idea what I’m doing—is there an easy way to convert my current website from dreamweaver to wordpress (for someone who can’t read code, etc)

Thanks!

You better begin by learning a little bit about WordPress (which is not difficult btw). I advise you to download XAMPP to have a local apache web server (www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) where you can install wordpress (wordpress.org) and test it locally.
Then you have to chose a theme that suits your site, there are hundreds of free quality themes or if you can afford it, go for a premium theme (20$ to 150$ in general).
After you get familiar with wordpress, you can install it on your live server, put your theme, and begin importing (copy / paste ? yeah). You have to chose between putting your old articles as posts or as pages, posts are good if you plan a blog-like site. Ther’s also hundreds of free plugins for each single feature you may think about.

    Good luck!

Actually, you can keep your existing site and install WordPress into its own folder. Then play around with themes to find the right look. It’s a far simpilar solution than having to convert a site. You can literally be in the blogging business with just a 1-click install. Check the control panel in your web hosting account. You should see WordPress in there. If you have cPanel control panel, it will be in Fantastico. If you can’t find it, ask your web host where it is.

If you can’t find a theme you like, get a copy of Artisteer (download and test drive it for free) and make your own theme. It’s really easy. No coding knowledge. If you can use a word processor, you can use Artisteer I created the theme you’re looking at now on this site with Artisteer.

Anyhoo, so once you get your blog set up, then just link to it from the menu of your Dreamweaver site. Hundreds of thousands of sites do that and visitors are accustomed to looking for a “blog” link on a website. And don’t worry if that sounds like a rubber band patch job because it’s not. Many people expect static websites to have blogs for updates.
