Depending on what version of WordPress she has and whether it’s self-hosted or not (I’m going to assume WordPress 2.7 or below and that she has it hosted herself)..
1. Sign into the blog
2. If WordPress 2.7 – click "Appearance" in the left hand menu
(If Pre-Wordpress 2.7, it will be located in the top menu)
3. Click "Widgets"
If it is a properly designed theme, then you should be able to edit and remove any widgets in the right-hand side of the screen by clicking the little "edit" link for each widget. Choose edit -> remove to delete the widget.
Navigate the different sections by using the "drop-down" box at the top-right (directly above the installed widgets).
